Hepatitis E, caused by the Hepatitis E Virus (HEV), affects humans, cows, sheep, goats and rodents. Contaminated water or food supplies, zoonotic transmission from pigs and wild boars, and consumption of uncooked meat have been implicated in HEV outbreaks.
While genotypes 1 and 2 are exclusively present in humans, genotypes 3 and 4 may be found in both humans and animals. Until now, commercial ELISAs were based on genotype 2 capsid antigen or peptides and were therefore designed for use with human samples. Given the need for tests for veterinary applications, IDvet has developed the first commercial multi-species indirect ELISA, ID Screen® Hepatitis E Indirect Multi-species using a recombinant genotype 3 capsid antigen and a multi-species conjugate. This ELISA is applicable to multiple species, including swine, shows high performance, and is easy-to-use. |
