The West Nile virus (WNV), which causes encephalitis in infected humans and horses, is maintained in nature by a mosquito vector and bird reservoir host.

The ID ScreenŽ West Nile IgM Capture is an IgM Antibody Capture (MAC) ELISA and allows for the detection of anti-prE IgM antibodies in horse sera, indicating recent infection and circulation of the WNV.
